A small plane went down near a freeway, crashing into traffic and injuring 13 people on Thursday.
The incident occurred just before noon local time near Torrance Airport in California, the Los Angeles Times reported. The pilot survived the crash and was taken to the hospital.
Photos and videos from the scene showed a fiery crash on the road that involved multiple vehicles. Witnesses told NBC News that the plane was going about 150 miles per hour when it crashed.
"I saw the pilot being ejected, then he was thrown into traffic. The plane was on fire," Dan Rodriguez told NBC Los Angeles.

Rescue crews struggled to get the victims out of their vehicles and onto stretchers. The victims were described as being in their teens, and possibly in their 20s.
"I just pray that it was not someone's child," one woman said.
Rodriguez said he heard what he thought was a backfiring sound and looked up to see the plane go down into a freeway.
"I thought I was going to hit the car in front of me. I thought about trying to get out and run, but I was so worried about hitting the other people," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said that as the plane was burning, people in the parking lot helped pull victims out of the wreckage, and that he was able to help a man and a woman.

Examining Nonsexual Violence Among Adolescent Sexual and Gender Minority Groups: A Comparative Analysis.
Nonsexual violent behavior is not limited to the sexes and sexual orientations. There is a growing awareness of nonsexual violence, but the current research examining the occurrence and consequences of nonsexual violence among sexual and gender minority adolescents is limited. This study examined nonsexual violence (i.e., physical assault, property damage, vandalism, and bullying) among adolescents (N = 695) from two sexual and gender minority groups: lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) youth (n = 399) and gender-expansive youth (n = 296). When compared to heterosexual youth, LGB youth experienced significantly more exposure to violence and abuse, especially sexual abuse, than gender-expansive youth. Both groups also reported significantly more exposure to nonsexual violence than heterosexual youth, with higher levels among LGB youth than gender-expansive youth. Gender-expansive youth reported significantly less sexual violence than LGB youth.
